Whose Narrative
I've read several pieces recently about the differing perspectives or narratives about what is happening in the world. Some commentators cast the US as predatory, but even if it was so they seem not to look at the record of the States on the other side of the equation. In the end it comes down to freedom to choose or the denial of the freedom to choose how to run one's life - and not for nothing is the US called the land of opportunity. Ukraine, the Baltic States, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, etc that sprang up or found new freedom after the demise of the Soviet Union want a say in how they will live and with whom they will ally, where previously they were not able to voice a view at all. Talk about fair dealing between the superpowers cannot ignore the rights and aspirations of those countries. Well, they can - but not forever.
